SHOMEN SCROLLS AND ITS MEANINGS

Our shomen calligraphy exhibits two favorite quotation from Morehei Ueshiba O'Sensei. "Takemusu Aiki" and "Makatsu Agatsu"

" TAKEMUSU AIKI SCROLL"

Takemusu Aiki , Which means literally  "TAKE" (Bu) - Martial ;   "MUSU" - Source. On a more deeper meaning, O'Sensei explained that "Takemusu Aiki" is the highest form of martial arts. It is the ideal state of Aikido where in new techniques are created spontaneously. "Takemusu aiki" can be obtained by anyone through dedicated practice.

"MAKATSU  AGATSU  SCROLL"

"Makatsu Agatsu" which means , True victory is victory over one's own self. This emphasizes Aikido's peaceful nature as a personal journey of improving our own self.

These scrolls should constantly remind us in training of the spirit and ideals that drives Aikido and what sets it apart from other martial path.

This is AIKIDO. This is our PATH.
